MLR & Missouri Law:

MLR tracks the Core Hours, Combined Hours, and Core Hours taught at the usual school location, requested by Missouri Law. Families for Home Education (FHE) recommends never to show authorities your records unless they are subpoenaed by a judge, and then to release only "copies" (not your originals) of the least amount of information that will satisfy the court.

The MLR report called "Monthly Log Report" is what we recommend offering as your records, however you should consult your lawyer and/or FHE before submitting copies of your records. The "Summary Hours for Selected/All Months Report" may supply too little information to satisfy the court. The "Daily Lesson Plan" may supply "too much information" in that it may encourage the courts to ask for this much detail in future prosecutions, and because it may encourage the judge to pass judgement on your curriculum choices.

FHE also recommends that the daily log is easily separable from other homeschooling records. We recommend the use of a 3-ring notebook, made easy by a 3-hole punch. However, if you do not find the "Legal Log Report" useful in your school, you can simply let it rest in the computer available to print up at a later date, if it is ever needed. This is another good reason to back up your data on a regular basis, at least once per month.

In any case, among the 3 reports you should have more than enough evidence to offer as your defense, provided you have kept your records accurate & up-to-date, and you have been achieving enough hours as described in the law.
