How to set up your homeschool
in MLR:
Setting up is a one time job that will customize
your program to meet your every need. (Well, almost!) It starts
with simple things like entering:
-
your home school name, address & phone (useful
on future transcripts)
-
your teacher(s)
-
your student(s)
-
the Department of Education's school year (in Missouri
it runs from 7/1/__ - 6/30/__ )
-
your school year (whatever your start and end dates,
you can log & lesson plan all year)
-
your anticipated holidays
-
if you grade, your grade period end dates (currently
handles whole year, semesters, trimesters or quarters)
If you choose, you may enter:
-
a Mission Statement for your school
-
yearly academic, life/home skills & character
development goals for each student
In the following lists, we have entered some possiblities
to make your job faster & easier, but you can easily change, delete,
add items that you want, to customize them to your school's & family's
needs:
-
core & non-core categories (of subjects) like
Reading, Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, Bible, Music, Art,
Crafts/Living Arts, Physical Education, etc. (We give you help on which
are considered Core vs. Non-Core by the state of Missouri)
-
subjects
-
lesson types (used by those who are grading and/or
by those who want to track field trips) (Here you can choose the number
of points each graded lesson is worth, as well as how you want different
lesson types weighted in the final grade calculations)
-
grading standards
-
book types (allow you to print out lists of different
types of educational materials [e.g. Reading Books, Curriculum Books, Educational
Software, Manipulatives] or all educational materials for each child)
-
preferences (here you can set default choices, including
book, lesson type, ordering of lessons by core/non-core, view switchboard
or not, etc.)
About all that is left in setup is to:

enter books & other educational materials (this
can be done as you go along, also)

Create a chore sheet, if you wish one. Once you complete
a simple dialogue box, the computer figures how to make the boxes to print
out this handsome form (but with much prettier colors than you see here):
